Springing for a classic

Two days ago, the season changed and we entered spring…but I’m not ready to ditch the winter warmers and embrace the spring rosés just yet. Yesterday I drank a delightfully easy-going, juicy red from central Italy – a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from M&S. Extremely fruit-forward (one word: cherries), this is a medium-bodied wine with balanced acidity and mellow tannins. At just £7 per bottle, I think it represents fantastic value for money – pair it with a rustic fireplace and classic margherita pizza with fresh basil and olive oil.

The seller says:

A vibrant and juicy Italian Red with ripe cherry fruit and notes of crushed black pepper. Made by winemaker Alessio Bandinelli from Montepulciano grapes grown in the rugged Abruzzo region, this smooth and characterful red is ideal for everyday sipping!
